SAN FRANCISCO, MAY 12, 2021 – Custom, game-worn sneakers created by NBA star and two time MVP, Stephen Curry, in collaboration with The Bruce Lee Foundation are on sale in partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta and Goldin Auctions. The shoes depict martial arts legend Bruce Lee and his family and were designed to show support for the victims of shootings that took place on March 16 at three Atlanta-area spas. Fans can bid on the sneakers here and all proceeds from the auction will be donated via Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta to the individuals and families impacted by the shootings as well as Atlanta-area programs dedicated to Asian American advancement.

Following the tragic events in March, Curry contacted the Bruce Lee Foundation, hoping to lend his voice and use his platform to create a conversation and spark change amid increased violence against the Asian community. The resulting bright yellow and black customized sneakers, which were painted by Kreative Custom Kicks, signify Curry’s solidarity with the Asian community. The shoes depict Bruce Lee, who was a champion of equal rights, as well as a quote from Lee, “Under the heavens, there is only family.” The colorway of the custom Curry 8s are also reminiscent of Bruce Lee’s famous Onitsuka Tiger shoes. The Under Armour sneakers were worn by Curry during an April 4 game against the Atlanta Hawks.

“After all we have been through this past year, let alone in the history of our country, people still deal with unnecessary tragedy and are afraid for their lives. We have to do better,” said Curry. “We have so many faithful Asian American fans that have supported me along this amazing journey. We represent them on the court and I feel the love no matter where I go. The shoes are a small way in which I can stand with this community, honor and support the victims of this tragedy, while also bringing awareness to Lee’s timeless teachings. We are all human beings on a quest to fulfill our purpose and that energy should be used to uplift and love each other to the fullest. Anything else is a waste of our existence.”

For Black History Month, Stephen Curry and Curry Brand have partnered with Baltimore artist, community leader, Gordon Parks Foundation Fellow, and Under Armour photographer, Devin Allen, to celebrate Baltimore’s Black community.

As part of the UNDR ARMR x DVNLLN collection, the special edition Curry 8 colorway is inspired by Devin’s recent book “Beautiful Ghetto”—a collection of iconic photographs that immortalizes the beauty in Baltimore’s overlooked communities. The new “Beautiful Flow” celebrates the resilience of Baltimore’s young athletes and represents the power of community.

Today, Casio announces the release of the GST-B100RH, the latest G-SHOCK model in collaboration with professional basketball player, Rui Hachimura.

As the second Japanese player to be drafted in the NBA, Hachimura has been an all-star player of team G-SHOCK at the outset of his successful first year with the Washington Wizards. As part of his partnership, he is the first athlete to release a signature model with the brand. Overseeing the design process from start to finish, Hachimura wanted the watch to yield emblematic features including a hachi (8 in Japanese) logo representing his last name and jersey number.

Stemming from the analog chronograph GST-B100 of the venerable G-STEEL series, Hachimura’s signature timepiece boasts a black base color amplified with edgy gold ion planting (IP) to the metal parts as well as bold, red accents applied to the index mark and button pipe at the 8 o’clock position. The Black Samurai logo is on the case back, strap keeper, and case.

Hachimura had this to say about the partnership,” G-SHOCK has come up with an amazing watch that perfectly captures the design I envisioned. It was also cool to see my special “Black Samurai logo” design included on the watch, as it is an important symbol to me.”

While the celebrity game is a cute way to engage the most casual of basketball fans, I never considered it apart of All-Star Weekend. From my few years experience, it is never in the NBA arena of that city and there is always overlap between the end of this game, and the start of the Rookie/Sophomore Rising Stars Challenge game.

For the second year in a row, the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge pitted a team of combination rookie and sophomore international players against 1st and 2nd-year NBA players from the United States. The mesh of players led to a combination of athletes across the sportswear brand spectrum.

Andrew Wiggins kept it clean going with the Canada-themed ‘Marita’ adidas Crazylight Boost 2.5; a Player Edition that the Stripes recently released on the low. He also started the game in a black/gold Crazylight Boost 2.5 colorway adidas made especially to hook up to the Team World uniforms.

Emmanuel Mudiay brought out a red colorway of the Under Armour Fire Low. Two different editions of the Nike HyperLive were seen as well.

Nike had the strongest showing with 13 players in Swoosh sneakers (14 if you count Jabari who wore the Jordan CP3.IX).

Clint Capela, Nikola Jokic, and Dwight Powell all wore a never-before-seen green-and-orange colorway of the Nike HyperLive & LeBron Soldier IX that featured the same print. Karl Anthony-Townes laced up a corresponding colorway of the current Nike Hyperdunk as well.

With the 2015-16 NBA season quickly approaching, the players are gearing up to officially get back to work.

When the Jordan Super.Fly 4 debuted back in July, it was available in a few different colorway options but with the same construction. A few months into the shoe’s release, there is now a new option available at retail. For the Jacquard editions, a woven upper (very similar to that seen on the Air Jordan XX9) is used making the sneaker lighter and less stiff in comparison to the very synthetic version that first came up.

While attending the 2015 Jordan Brand Holiday preview, I noticed these two pairs of the Jordan Super.Fly 4 Jacquard off in the corner. As a fan of the entire Super.Fly series it is good to see Jordan Brand come up with new options to highlight a great performance basketball sneaker.

No exact release date yet; however look for both of these to release before the end of 2015.

Looking to avenge last season’s shortcomings, LeBron James looks ready to be ready for the upcoming NBA season with a new Nike signature shoe.

Just at a glance, the LeBron 13 is constructed from some type of textile upper and has a shape similar to the LeBron 9. From a picture of the bottom floating around online, this is the second sneaker in the LeBron James signature series to haze hexagonal Zoom Air capsules. A carbon fiber shank also looks to be featured on the two colorways seen here.

What looks very unique is the use of Megaposite. Seen here in the ankle/heel area is a rather large piece of the Foamposite-covered material which, I assume, is used to contain the foot of LeBron James as force is applied thru movement.

No official word as to when the Nike LeBron 13 will release. My guess is that King James will start the 2015-16 NBA season wearing this; his thirteenth signature sneaker.

As time goes on, I find myself delving deeper into all aspects of sneaker culture. Recently I teamed with Campless (sneakerhead data resource) to quantify the statistics that reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry recorded in each colorway of the Under Armour Curry One and Under Armour ClutchFit Drive that he wore throughout the entire 2014-15 Golden State Warriors championship season.

After identifying each Under Armour sneaker that Stephen Curry wore in EVERY game and recording and averaging his statistics in each colorway of the Curry One and ClutchFit Drive, it is clear that the elder Splash Brother not only got better as the season went on, but all of his stats saw a spike after the debut of his first signature sneaker.

Shoutout to Josh from Campless for not only helping me organize all this data I had, but also being willing to host this content on his site. Campless was the obvious choice of outlet to publish this as he has already built a sneaker resource website that focuses on the numbers side of the market; salutes to him and his newborn son.

Getting sneakers before their release date has always been something that footwear aficionados are after. But at what cost?

As the story goes: two employees (Calvin Nelson & Audley Russell) of JFK Airport in New York City intercepted a box of the upcoming Nike KD8 as they made their way from Taiwan to Canada.

Note that the NY Daily News makes it seem as if the two JFK workers was both in on the intercepting the package while the Inquisitr says that Nelson only bought the stolen pairs and that Russell acted alone in the theft.

Whatever the logistics, these two guys agreed to terms of a transaction that left Russell with his size in the KD8s and Nelson with the rest. Russell did go on record to say:

He gave me $80 to $100 a pair. I didn’t know how hot the sneakers were. I would have asked for more money

Nelson took to the @SNKR_BASE Instagram page and posted a multiple pictures of a full size run (sizes from 7 to 13) of the KD8s; providing not only the first look at this upcoming Kevin Durant sneaker, but also the actual retail box.

This was big. Not even a full 24 hours after these images & videos of the Nike KD8 were posted to Instagram, Nike and Kevin Durant released line imagery of the KD8 thru their social media accounts; in my opinion to neutralize the sting of the early looks that spread all across sneaker media.

This content was everywhere; even we featured a lot of it and made mention to Nike publishing imagery earlier than their scheduled rollout.

It is amazing how a single person could affect the sneaker rollout process of the most dominant sportswear brand in basketball today. According to the pictures, the Nike KD8 will retail for $200 and is rumored to be announced the week after the ‘What The…” KD 7 releases.

Signature basketball sneakers are usually the most popular, so it isn’t uncommon to see a player wearing kicks made with one of their NBA co-workers name on them. But what happens when your team is playing the team and you’re wearing the shoe of your opponent? This is the dilemma that DeMarre Carroll of the Atlanta Hawks faced when the Eastern Conference Finals has started.

Throughout this season, Carroll has worn the Nike LeBron XII and even made the switch into the ‘Team’ LeBron 12 Elite a few games before their public release. Now that the Hawks will be playing the Cavaliers for at least four games, DeMarre has to break his pattern and find a new game shoe.

Starting Game 1 of the Hawks/Cavaliers series in Atlanta, DeMarre Carroll laced up the ‘Heat’ Nike Air Zoom Flight 98 (better known as “The Glove” since Gary Payton wore them).

With about 5 minutes left in the Hawks loss to the Cavs, Carroll sustained a knee bruise and had the leave the game. Now is questionable for Game 2. Is it the shoes?

In 1998, the Air Flight 98 was top-of-the-line with its Josh Heard-designed shroud upper (which he also applied to the Air Jordan XX8). But almost two decades removed, it doesn’t make much sense to still be wearing these during one of the most important games of your career; especially just for style sake.

People have classic cars to drive leisurely, not day-to-day. That mentality should be carried over into the NBA when it comes to sneakers. Not saying that Carroll’s footwear choice caused his injury, but it isn’t a idea that should be overlooked. Look at the amount of Air Jordan Retros that fall apart in-game.

No word on if this will be the sneaker Carroll wears all series, or even if he returns to the active list, but it is more than fair to say he (literally) won’t “put his feet in LeBron’s shoes” anytime soon.

When sportswear companies like Nike officially announce sneakers, the pictures tend to have the same type of formulaic composition. Always high quality, just framed in the same angles with a bland background. And that is perfectly acceptable. However there are people who are interested in picking up a pair and whose only option to buy is via the internet.

That is the inspiration for this new section called SneakerShots. Here, I will provide high resolution imagery of current sneakers to give possible consumers a better look at the product before shelling out their duckets.

For the inaugural SneakerShots installment, I am highlight the upcoming Nike KD7 Elite ‘Elevate’ a few days before its May 15th release.

A lot of parallels can be made between the current state of the music business and sneaker business. Thanks to the internet, information is very widespread and it is harder to keep secrets.

Yesterday, alleged pictures of the Nike KD8 started to go around. What started with a single, profile-type shot was seemingly used as an excuse for other social accounts who had the shoe (or other pictures) to post their images, leaving us with little to the imagination about what the next Kevin Durant sneaker will look like.

Less than 24 hours after the Nike KD8 leak, Kevin Durant took to both his Instagram and Twitter feed with very official-looking teaser imagery featuring the number 8, an animal head, and a Nike Swoosh. The injured Thunder player also tagged #KD8 with the image on both social profiles.

I am going to assume that official Nike KD8 info will be coming down the pipeline very soon; I am guessing a July release date.

James Harden has been a pseudo-signature athlete for Nike for the last two seasons. After starting the 2013-14 NBA season in the Nike Run The One, Harden made the transition into the current Nike Hyperchase. Despite none of those silhouettes having his name attached, all official Nike media surrounding last season’s Run The One and the Hyperchase featured James Harden’s likeness on things like in-store banners and the media press release.

After debuting the Hyperchase at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game in NYC and playing only two and-a-half games in it, Harden reverted back to the Run The One in the second half of the Rockets/Timberwolves game on February 23, 2015 and kept them on his feet for the rest of the season (although there were games where Harden wore a Hyperrev 2015 PE).

During the 2013-14 NBA season, LeBron James hadn’t worn the then-current Nike LeBron 11 for a full game until the next calendar year. The times that he did start a game in them he didn’t spend more than a 12-minute quarter in the LeBron 11 before swapping them out for the previous model. It should also be noted that the LeBron X (10) is said to be tied with the LeBron 7 as King James’ favorite silhouette from his signature series.

All that said the question remains: does NBA players wearing the out-of-date sneaker silhouettes affect sale numbers or a silhouette’s popularity?

Tim Duncan continues to wear the adidas Crazyquick from 2013, even in the current Spurs/Clippers series, which makes it three calender years in a sneaker that can’t be found in stores anymore. Now to be fair the Crazyquick is a GREAT basketball sneaker. The textile Techfit upper and flexible midsole makes for a great combination of technology in a basketball sneaker, and with Duncan widely known for being lowkey, it makes sense that he found some kicks that works and sticks with them.

Dirk Nowitzki still wears old Hyperdunk pairs, Jeff Teague has gone back to the first Crazylight Boost (4) for Game 3, Game 4, & Game 5 of the current Hawks/Nets series, and decade-old Air Jordan Retros are still being worn in NBA games. The days of sneakers being seen on basketball players during games having the most influence on players are over. Marketing and outlets (such as this one) have become priority with both the brand and consumer.
