SAN FRANCISCO, MAY 12, 2021 – Custom, game-worn sneakers created by NBA star and two time MVP, Stephen Curry, in collaboration with The Bruce Lee Foundation are on sale in partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta and Goldin Auctions. The shoes depict martial arts legend Bruce Lee and his family and were designed to show support for the victims of shootings that took place on March 16 at three Atlanta-area spas. Fans can bid on the sneakers here and all proceeds from the auction will be donated via Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta to the individuals and families impacted by the shootings as well as Atlanta-area programs dedicated to Asian American advancement.

Following the tragic events in March, Curry contacted the Bruce Lee Foundation, hoping to lend his voice and use his platform to create a conversation and spark change amid increased violence against the Asian community. The resulting bright yellow and black customized sneakers, which were painted by Kreative Custom Kicks, signify Curry’s solidarity with the Asian community. The shoes depict Bruce Lee, who was a champion of equal rights, as well as a quote from Lee, “Under the heavens, there is only family.” The colorway of the custom Curry 8s are also reminiscent of Bruce Lee’s famous Onitsuka Tiger shoes. The Under Armour sneakers were worn by Curry during an April 4 game against the Atlanta Hawks.

“After all we have been through this past year, let alone in the history of our country, people still deal with unnecessary tragedy and are afraid for their lives. We have to do better,” said Curry. “We have so many faithful Asian American fans that have supported me along this amazing journey. We represent them on the court and I feel the love no matter where I go. The shoes are a small way in which I can stand with this community, honor and support the victims of this tragedy, while also bringing awareness to Lee’s timeless teachings. We are all human beings on a quest to fulfill our purpose and that energy should be used to uplift and love each other to the fullest. Anything else is a waste of our existence.”

As part of the UNDR ARMR x DVNLLN collection, the special edition Curry 8 colorway is inspired by Devin’s recent book “Beautiful Ghetto”—a collection of iconic photographs that immortalizes the beauty in Baltimore’s overlooked communities. The new “Beautiful Flow” celebrates the resilience of Baltimore’s young athletes and represents the power of community.

Stephen Curry made basketball history Sunday night. And his game had flow like water.

Fueled by both passion and purpose, he went 18-for-31 from the field, 8-for-16 from behind the arc and a near perfect 18-of-19 from the free throw line. That’s a career-high 62 points to go along with five boards, four assists and a crucial win.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, it marked the first time a player has scored at least 30 points in each half of a game since 2005. And, almost as if he planned it, Curry split his total evenly between the two halves. It was also the 27th time in his career he had knotted at least 20 in a quarter, scoring 22 in the first.

And, he commemorated the moment by gifting 62 pairs of the yet-to-be-released Curry 8 “Flow Like Water” colorway to 62 stand-out student-athletes in Oakland Unified School District, passing it forward to the next generation of athletes who will change the game for good.

You guessed it. Flow Like Water was the royal blue Curry 8 colorway he was wearing in the milestone effort.

Today, Casio announces the release of the GST-B100RH, the latest G-SHOCK model in collaboration with professional basketball player, Rui Hachimura.

As the second Japanese player to be drafted in the NBA, Hachimura has been an all-star player of team G-SHOCK at the outset of his successful first year with the Washington Wizards. As part of his partnership, he is the first athlete to release a signature model with the brand. Overseeing the design process from start to finish, Hachimura wanted the watch to yield emblematic features including a hachi (8 in Japanese) logo representing his last name and jersey number.

Stemming from the analog chronograph GST-B100 of the venerable G-STEEL series, Hachimura’s signature timepiece boasts a black base color amplified with edgy gold ion planting (IP) to the metal parts as well as bold, red accents applied to the index mark and button pipe at the 8 o’clock position. The Black Samurai logo is on the case back, strap keeper, and case.

Hachimura had this to say about the partnership,” G-SHOCK has come up with an amazing watch that perfectly captures the design I envisioned. It was also cool to see my special “Black Samurai logo” design included on the watch, as it is an important symbol to me.”

If you happened to be a teenager in the late 1990s or early 2000s and played basketball, there is a good chance you knew of – and possibly wore clothing from – AND1. Founded in 1993 by Seth Berger in Philadelphia, AND1 was a start-up company before every wannabe entrepreneur had created some type of start-up business.

Originally a t-shirt company selling products with its logo and basketball clichés scribbled across them, AND1 hit a vein with fans of the sport, especially on the streets of America. While Nike, Converse, and Adidas had long ruled the basketball sportswear sphere playing it safe with their range of products, AND1 attacked the sport different. It was a guerrilla effort from the sportswear start-up that made basketball players and fans take notice.

Berger had originally intended AND1 to be a database of recreational basketball league players and teams that he could sell to major sportswear manufacturers. What companies would do with the information was up to them and that is perhaps why the idea bombed when presented at a Chicago tradeshow.

It was at the trade show that Berger and his friends Jay Gilbert and Tom Austin realized that Nike and Adidas were ignoring a major demographic of basketball players which included those rec league men and women along with street ballers. The trio began writing down basketball slogans and within six weeks of their new business plan, were selling AND1 t-shirts. Within a year, AND1 had made $1.7 million in revenue mostly on t-shirts.

Some of the coolest NBA stars of the 1990s were endorsed by AND1 including Stephon Marbury, Latrell Sprewell, and Larry Johnson. Looking back at it, all three of those NBA players were controversial in their own ways including Sprewell who choked out head coach P. J. Carlesimo in 1997 during practice. It wasn’t until 2000 that AND1 truly arrived, however. That was when Vince Carter laced up the AND1 Tai Chi and soared through the air to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. According to Betway NBA, Carter wore the AND1 debut shoe for the dunk contest making it a sensation overnight and by the next year, the shoe was the sneaker for collectors and players.

Had Carter still been wearing Puma branded shoes, the company that had originally paid him $50m to endorse, the AND1 story would be far different. However, after Carter wore the sneakers and finished off a reverse 360 windmill dunk, ever basketball player and fan in America had to have a pair of the Tai Chi AND1s. As the company progressed through the early 2000s it became synonymous with street basketball and the AND1 mixtapes began airing on ESPN making fans of ballers who never had a shot at playing in the NBA. The company even had a street ball tour that visited cities across North America.

AND1’s image of urban, street basketball didn’t last and by 2005 Berger was ready to move on. He sold the company to spend more time with his three kids, all under seven, and coach basketball. More recently, Berger reemerged in the business world working in mobile phones and marketing cases that double as wallets.

AND1 continues to sponsor pro players as well as high school teams in the United States. Right now, the most high-profile player sponsored by AND1 is Toronto Raptors star Fred VanVleet. Although AND1 still makes shoes and apparel, the days of the Tai Chi and Carter soaring in for dramatic dunks are long gone.

FILA and the Christopher Wallace Estate are releasing the FILA x Biggie Collection in honor of the legendary debut album, Ready to Die, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last September. The six-piece range includes a t-shirt and visor straight from FILA’s archives, as well as a new sneaker style, with each piece offered in two colorways. The FILA x Biggie Collection drops on May 19, exclusively on www.FILA.com. Beginning on May 21, in commemoration of the late rapper’s birthday, the collection will expand to select retailers.

The exclusive collection was inspired by Biggie and 1990’s Brooklyn streetwear. The t-shirt ($25) and visor ($25) launch in the white and aqua colorway, as worn by Biggie during his 1993 performance in Philly, as well as a new cream colorway. The graphic tee features a scribble design inside the enlarged FILA “F”.

The FILA Tennis 88 x Biggie ($90) silhouette debuts in the same two colorways and is an updated version to the Original Tennis silhouette that kicked off the brand’s popularity amongst Brooklynites. The cream colorway has a suede upper while the white and aqua colorway is introduced with a full grain smooth leather upper. The sneakers also feature a tongue with a dual branded logo, a quarter F-box embroidered logo, custom direct embroidery of Ready to Die on the back counter, and flat cotton laces. The printed sock liner in the cream silhouette features the iconic baby photo from the album cover, while the printed sock liner in the white silhouette includes the Ready to Die logo. The footwear is packaged in a custom shoebox, which is co-branded and decorated with elements of the original album art.

Here’s a look at what Under Armour Basketball athletes wore on-court for the 2019 All-Star weekend and the inspiration behind each custom shoe.

3-POINT CONTEST:

Seth Curry’s Curry 6 player exclusive tributes his mother Sonya, sister Sydel.

In a fitting return to the Queen city that the Curry’s call home, Seth tasked footwear customizer Mache with honoring the queens in his life, Sonya and Sydel. The rest of the Curry 6 PE, which Seth wore during the 3 point contest, is a love letter to Charlotte and the Charlotte Coliseum where his dad Dell used to play.

Charlotte is Seth’s home, and the UA Curry 6 PE he strapped on Saturday was a reminder of the places and powerful women that helped drive him to where he is today.

Steph Curry is quick to acknowledge the value of growing up the son of an NBA star. Dennis rocked an unmistakably loud UA Anatomix Spawn colorway called the Bunny Pack, featuring a bright pink upper and faux fur tongue. But the Bunny Pack doesn’t refer to Jr.’s hops only – it’s how he got them, and who helped him get there, his friend and partner Ja-Rell.

Hami Diallo sported a custom pair of the Under Armour M-Tag low that features a nostalgic look back to where he grew up.

Billy Hobbs, Hami’s friend from his days at Kentucky, was tasked with bringing Queens and LeFrak City to life on Hami’s M-Tags. Nods to the community abound, including the building names like Peru, Copenhagen, Melbourne, London and more. There are more references to Hami’s story – Stop 1 Deli, his local bodega, section 2 and section 5, his local basketball courts. Of course, the Queens basketball legends get a nod – Taliek Brown, Kenny Anderson and Kenny ‘The Jet’ Smith are all referenced by their jersey numbers.

NBA All-Star 2019 is upon us, and today Under Armour Basketball is unveiling the Curry 6 colorway that tells the origin story of Stephen as a coy prankster as he returns to his home in Charlotte for the All-Star Game.

This striking colorway of the Curry 6 Coy Fish is a nod to the vibrant beauty of the koi fish, featuring a bright yellow fully knit upper, a full-length HOVR midsole and a water-like clear outsole for best-in-class traction.

So why the Curry 6 Coy Fish? Well, the coy, playful personality that friends and family now know all too well can be traced back to Stephen’s time at Davidson College in North Carolina. The “Coy Fish” prank occurred during Stephen’s junior year, while he was out with his teammates on his 21st birthday.

“We went to a little Japanese steakhouse to celebrate, and decisions were made to jump in the koi fish pond at the restaurant. I was the decoy distracting the hostess while Steve [Rossiter] jumped in and tried to grab one of the fish.”

As Rossiter worked to nab a koi fish from the restaurant pond, Curry distracted the hostess. Unfortunately for them, a security camera caught all the action. A videotape from the restaurant made its way to Davidson College men’s basketball head coach Bob McKillop a week later.

“We were in the gym running sprints for a good two hours,” said Stephen. “And then we had to go back to the steakhouse and stay at the front door for four hours as greeters!”

At that point, the restaurant had come out on top – the most famous amateur athlete in the area was at the door greeting customers. And while Stephen might have learned his lesson in the moment, it only ignited the coy spirit that drives his mischievous personality today.

Now to celebrate the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, the Under Armour Curry 6 Coy Fish colorway will drop in limited pairs at the Armoury at Champs Sports in the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville, NC on February 13 beginning at 4:30 pm ET. It releases broadly for $130 USD on February 15, 2019.

Nike Basketball has taken its first step toward the future with the unveiling of the brand new, power-lacing Adapt BB sneaker.

The Nike Adapt BB is the company’s first auto-lacing performance basketball sneaker. Players can select different fit settings on the shoe either through manual touch or by using the Nike Adapt app. You will have the ability to customize the fit in three separate modes – one for the game, one for the warm-up, and one for the streets. When paired with a special app, you will be able to save preferences, download updates, and constantly change the color of its midsole lights.

Aesthetically, the Adapt BB boasts a mid-cut construction, a forefoot shroud that conceals its lacing mechanism, and a large midfoot Swoosh that dips onto the icy outsole of this first black and white color scheme.

“We picked basketball as the first sport for Nike Adapt intentionally because of the demands that athletes put on their shoes,” said Eric Avar, Nike’s VP creative director of innovation. “During a normal basketball game, the athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience.”

Jayson Tatum will be the first NBA player to wear the HyperAdapt BB in a game when the Boston Celtics host the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Tatum told DePaula. “Hearing about a shoe with all this technology and no laces, I didn’t know what it was going to look like. It really surprised me. It looked a lot better than I thought it would, and it felt great – that was most important.”

The shoe will officially launch February 17th, with an expected price tag of $350.

The new HOVR Havoc brings the same benefits of active responsive cushioning and energy return to athletes on the basketball court that UA debuted in the HOVR Phantom and HOVR Sonic for runners earlier this year. Soft UA HOVR Foam is contained in a compression mesh Energy Web in the midsole of the HOVR Havoc, making every move more explosive and every step as responsive in the closing seconds as at the opening tip.

To address the running, jumping and dynamic movements unique to basketball, UA designed a hyper-performance system that delivers on lock down, containment and stability in the HOVR Havoc.

The UA HOVR Havoc Low ($105) and HOVR Havoc Mid ($115) will release globally, beginning in North America, at UA Brand Houses and at UA.com on August 31st.
