Steph Curry’s 90-foot heave is the most exciting miss you’ll ever see

There was once a time in the NBA where taking end-of-quarter heaves actually happened before the buzzer sounded. Nowadays, players tend to care a little more about their shooting percentage. Thus we typically see the majority of players try to squeeze in three, four or even five dribbles before they launch a half-court prayer that has absolutely no chance of getting off before the horn sounds.

And then there is Steph Curry.

The soon-to-be two-time MVP of the Association isn’t afraid of jacking up a 90-foot shot at the end of the quarter — even if the low success rate of the attempt could hurt his insane three-point percentage. Curry made this notion very evident Thursday night when the Golden State Warriors hosted the San Antonio Spurs in a highly anticipated matchup.

After watching LeBron James incredibly powerful and swift double pump reverse dunk in the lane Wednesday night it got me thinking about the top 10 dunks of his illustrious career, is last night’s dunk in the top 10?

Being a 6’8″ 260 pound freight train of speed, power and athleticism has lent itself to some pretty incredible throw downs by King James.

Calderon Nails Game Winner in LA

The battle of the two biggest markets in the country took place Sunday evening in the Staples Center, as the overpaid and underwhelming New York Knicks battled the cellar dwelling Los Angeles Lakers.

This was the second of an NBA double-header of sorts as the Cavaliers took down the Clippers earlier in the afternoon 114-90.

After a hotly contested battle between the Knicks and Lakers in Kobe and Carmelo’s last game against one another, the Knicks had the ball with less than five seconds left. With the game tied at 87, Jose Calderon did his best MJ from the 1998 NBA Finals impression by creating space on Lakers guard Marcelo Huertas and nailing a deep three with 0.2 seconds remaining.

The Knicks are currently sitting at 28-40, seven games out of the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference with only 14 games remaining.

They will need a lot more of this magic and a truck load of luck if they want to avoid missing the postseason for the 11th time in the last 15 years.

Jordan Clarkson Had Evan Fournier On Skates Last Night

The Lakers young back court of Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell have been playing pretty well as of late and the Lakers won their second consecutive game Tuesday night, taking down the Orlando Magic 107-98 in Los Angeles.

Although the game featured plenty of highlights, including some sharp shooting from the Lakers and this windmill dunk by the most entertaining non-superstar in the league in Aaron Gordon…

The play of the game may still have been when Jordan Clarkson had Evan Fournier doing the stanky leg in the 2nd quarter and followed it up with a deep three.

We thought there were enough amazing plays this past week to warrant a Top 10 NBA Plays of the Week for our weekly THD Video mixtape. What we didn’t anticipate was Kevin Durant hitting a smooth game winner the night after the mixtape was complete, and/or Steph Curry having a number of highlights in his ridiculous 36 point first half last night. DeMarcus Cousins was in full Boogie Mode this week for the Sacramento Kings. Not only did he score 56 points in a game for a career high, but he did it right after scoring 48 points the previous game. In fact DeMarcus Cousins became the first player in the last 30+ years to score over 45 points and 10 rebounds in back to back games. We felt his week deserved the THD video mixtape treatment….

Jimmy Butler Becomes Only 4th Chicago Bulls Player to Score 50+ points in Franchise History

Jimmy Butler has been playing out of his mind as of late and keeps showing how high his ceiling actually is, as he is a bonafide NBA superstar these days.

Butler scored 53 points in the Bulls 115-11 comeback victory over the 76ers Thursday night.

Butler shot 15 of the 30 from the field, including 2 for 4 from downtown while making 21 of 25 free throws in the game to go along with 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

This makes Butler only the fourth player in Bulls history to score 50 points in a game. And only the third person since 1985 to pull off a similar overall stat line.

Butler was actually supposed to sit out the game to rest his sore ankle but refused to take the night off according to Head Coach Fred Hoiberg.

Butler had added motivation to not sit out the game.

“I got a bet with my trainer that I’m going to play 82 games,” Butler said. “When I’m nicked up, Travelle Gaines said we got to get you to play 82. So I got to continue to take care of my body, hydrate, keep icing my knees and all that stuff.”

Justise Winslow Is Traveling This Holiday Season

In the third quarter of the Pistons 93-92 win over the Heat in Miami last night Justise Winslow displayed some of his impressive athleticism in cocking it back on the fast break and dunking on Pistons forward Ersan Illyasova in the third quarter.

He also took five steps, yes five steps, to get there…

Alec Burks devoured Jon Leuer’s Soul Last Night

In the fourth quarter of the Jazz 110-89 victory over the Phoenix Suns in Utah, those in attendance got to see a bonafide dunk of the year candidate as Alec Burks gathered speed on the launch pad that is the left side of the court, catapulted himself into the atmosphere, and not only dunked on Suns player Jon Leuer but also may have lit-rally dunked on the Sun.

Scientists are still evaluating the situation and have yet come to a conclusion.

Kevin Durant Sinks One-Handed Reverse Layup From Behind Basket, Is Still Ridiculous

Every so often, as in a few times per game, Kevin Durant likes to remind us that he is still ridiculous.

So, against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar reminded us that he was still ridiculous—by hitting a one-handed reverse layup from behind the basket.

No, seriously, he did this:

Um, yeah, 7-footers aren’t supposed to be able to do this—like, any of it. The fake-out of Richard Jefferson. The handle. The ball control as he takes flight. The soft touch at the rim while under duress.

All of it is just insane.

Then again, Kevin Durant is just insane.

His Thunder would go on to blow a 12-point lead and fall to LeBron James’ Cavaliers 104-100, but at least he, along with the rest of us, will always have this layup—this beautiful, unconventional, impossible layup.

Watch: Deron Williams Blows Past Russell Westbrook For First Dunk Since 2013

It’s been a rough couple of seasons for now 31 year old point guard Deron Williams, who is now playing in his first season for the Dallas Mavericks.

Once considered among the Top 5 floor generals in the game just a few short seasons ago, as some touted him as on a level even with Chris Paul, “D-Will” has struggled to live up to that lofty hype following taking major money to be the franchise player for the Nets as they moved across the river to Brooklyn in 2013.

Williams made 3 straight NBA All Star appearances from 2010 to 2012, averaging 20 points and 10 assists per game, playing for both Utah and New Jersey/Brooklyn. But over the last 3 seasons, Deron’s numbers have slipped as the team failed to reach their lofty expectations, putting up just 13 points and 6.6 dimes per contest last season, prompting the team to buy out the former Lottery pick this offseason.

Following losing Monta Ellis in free agency, the Dallas Mavericks swooped in and nabbed Williams to be their starting floor general for the 2015-2016 season, one where Dallas was expected to struggle to compete for the 8th seed in the Western Conference.

To everyone’s surprise, the Mavericks have gotten out to an impressive 9-5 start and in 3rd place out West, in part because of the veteran presence of Williams and the ageless Dirk Nowitzki(18 ppg).

Over the weekend, Dallas lost to the OKC Thunder 117-114 as Russell Westbrook again went off for 31 points and 11 assists, but towards the end of the 2nd quarter Deron Williams decided to turn back the clock and blew past Westbrook for a 1 handed slam that shocked everyone, especially Russell, as he stood and stared at the 31 year old point guard for a few moments in disbelief. It was Williams’ first in game dunk since the 2013-2014 season……

Watch: Warriors Beat Nuggets To Match Best NBA Start of 15-0

Who can stop the Golden State Warriors?

The defending champions continued their impressive run this season after emerging victorious yet again last night at Pepsi Center, beating the Denver Nuggets, 118-105.

Klay Thompson and Stephen led the way for the Warriors, as they combined for 40 points (15-of-32) that included seven buckets from beyond the arc. But this win was a pretty special one as it allowed them to match the best NBA start in league history of 15-0.

Now, Curry and company set their sights on setting new record by becoming the first ever team to start 16-0 when Kobe Bryant and the 2-11 Los Angeles Lakers come to Oracle Arena this coming Tuesday night. Watch: Andrew Wiggins with the Monstrous Dunk Against the Hawks

Once Andrew Wiggins leaves his feet, there’s almost no stopping him from scoring.

But apparently, the Atlanta Hawks’ Paul Millsap didn’t know that or simply forgot about Wiggins’ insane leaping abilities as he tried to contest his dunk attempt during their game last night against the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves.

And as a result, Millsap’s now on a new poster.
