We are only days away from the much anticipated 2014 NBA Draft and there has been a shake-up at the top now that potential #1 selection Joel Embiid has had foot surgery and will be out for a minimum of 4-6 months.

Now it appears as if Cleveland will now select either Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker with the number one selection and it will be interesting to see just how far Embiid will fall.

Players like Efrid Payton, Rod Hood, and Dante Exum are said to be on the rise as Julius Randle, James Young, and Embiid are rumored to be sliding as we approach Thursday’s draft.

These are only my choices and not the consensus picks of all of The Hoop Doctors writers, with that said here is my 2013 Mock Draft:Version 5.0 – The Final Cut

Draft Order College Team Player Position Physical

1.

Cle

 Duke Jabari Parker
SF/PF 6’9   240lbs   Freshman
While Wiggins remains an option at #1, Cleveland wants to win now and Parker is the most NBA ready prospect in this year’s Draft.

2.

Mil

 Kansas Andrew Wiggins
 SF 6’8   200lbs   Freshman
Undoubtedly the player with the highest ceiling now falls to the Bucks, although they already have the “Greek Freak” at the same position.  Rumor has it that Dante Exum could be in play here as well.

3.

Phi

 Kansas Joel Embiid
 C 7’0   250lbs   Freshman
Supposedly the farthest Embiid would fall is to 6 or 7 to Boston or LA, but Philly has a history of waiting on talented big men like Bynum and Noel before him.  Teaming up Embiid with Noel could be the 2nd coming of the “Twin Towers”, barring a Sixers trade to move up, or they select Exum at #3.

4.

Orl

Australia
Dante Exum
 PG/SG 6’6   196lbs   Intl
Pairing Exum with Victor Oladipo seems like a no brainer, giving Orlando one of the best young backcourts in the Eastern Conference.  If Exum goes #2, Embiid could be in play here as well.

5.

Utah

 Indiana Noah Vonleh
 PF 6’9   245lbs   Freshman
The Combine wonderchild is filled with potential and now is ranked ahead of other forwards like Randle and Gordon.  He has NBA size and athleticism, and could be a real hidden gem of the draft long term.

6.

Bos

 OK State Marcus Smart
PG 6’3   227lbs   Sophomore
With tradewinds swirling around Rajon Rondo, the Celtics are high on Smart, a big bodied PG that defends and has outstanding leadership qualities.

7.

LAL

 Arizona Aaron Gordon
 SF/PF 6’9   220lbs   Freshman
The Lakers are said to be very high on either Smart or Gordon, but it’s doubtful that Smart lasts past 6.  Gordon could be the 2nd coming of Blake Griffin as a super athletic PF that is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft.

8.

Sac

Kentucky
Julius Randle
 PF 6’9   250lbs   Freshman
Amid concerns about a screw limiting his mobility still in his foot, Randle may slide a bit, but pairing him with another Kentucky big man DeMarcus Cousins would make for an imposing frontcourt going forward.  With Isaiah Thomas’ contract situation, the Kings could take a gamble witht he fast rising Efrid Payton at #8.

9.

Cha

Creighton
Doug McDermott
 SF 6’7   220lbs   Senior
Adding offensive minded NCAA POY McDermott to an already good Playoff squad that features Al Jefferson down low would be a no brainer.  “McBuckets” could either evolve into the next Larry Bird………or Kyle Korver.

10.

Phi

 Michigan Nik Stauskas
 SG 6’6   207lbs   Sophomore
The Michigan sharpshooter is one of the premier perimeter players in the draft and would be a great offensive option next to reigning NBA ROY Michael Carter-Williams.  Of course, a lot is determined here depending on what the 76ers do at #3.

11.

Den

 Mich St Gary Harris
 SG 6’4   205lbs   Sophomore
Arguably the most complete 2 guard in the draft, Harris can both score and efend with the best of them.  He may not have a superstar upside but should be a solid contributor for the next decade.

12.

Orl

 Croatia Dario Saric
SF/PF 6’10   220lbs   Intl
With rumors that he’s about to sign a 3 year deal to remain in Europe, Saric’s stock may be slipping.  Nonetheless, he’s a super talented offensive player in the mold of Dirk Nowitzki, meaning he won’t slide far.

13.

Min

 UCLA Kyle Anderson
SF/PG 6’9   230lbs   Sophomore
It appears as if Minny will be losing the services of All Star Kevin Love sooner rather than later.  Adding a multi-talented point forward like Anderson would be a smart move.

14.

Pho

Duke Rod Hood
 SF 6’8   208lbs   Sophomore
With Channing Frye opting out, Phoenix will need more offensive firepower, meaning Hood could be in play here.  He was often overshadowed by Jabari Parker at Duke, but Hood has high potential as a sharpshooting 3 with great athleticism.

15.

Atl

NC State
TJ Warren
SF 6’8   220lbs   Sophomore
One of the most potent offensive players in this year’s draft, Warren would be a great scoring option for developing PG Jeff Teague, considering they already have an All Star frontcourt in Al Horford and Paul Millsap.

16.

Chi

 UCLA Zach LaVine
PG 6’6   180lbs   Freshman
It’s no secret the Bulls need both insurance for the oft injured Derrick Rose and offensive firepower.  LaVine fills both as many have compared him as being the next Russell Westbrook.

17.

Bos

 Kentucky James Young
SF 6’6   215lbs   Freshman
I’m not sure why the Kentucky product is sliding but the sharpshooting wing has been compared to both Ray Allen and Bradley Beal and is one of the top offensive players in the draft.  He would be an outstanding fit alongside either Rondo or Marcus Smart going forward.

18.

Pho

Boznia
Jusuf Nurkic
 C 6’11   280lbs   Intl
The imposing big man is an excellent draft and stash prospect to replace Miles Plumlee, who is better served as a back-up.  The dominating big man reminds many of another Nikola Pekovic, making him a perfect compliment to the more mobile Alex Len.

19.

Chi

 Mich St Adrien Payne
PF 6’10   240lbs   Senior
With Carlos Boozer potentially being amnestied and Taj Gibson rumored in the mix for a trade for Carmelo Anthony, Payne makes sense at #19.  If he lasts this long, the senior forward is an outstanding pick-and-roll player with range to the 3 point line that can play right away.

20.

Tor

Louisiana-Laf
Efrid Payton
 PG 6’4   185lbs   Junior
One of the fastest risers in the draft, Payton reminds many of a young Rajon Rondo as an elite athlete and defender, with a mediocre offensive game.  If Toronto thinks Kyle Lowry leaves in free agency, Payton or Shabazz Napier would be in play here.

21.

OKC

Michigan
Glen Robinson III
SF 6’7   211lbs   Sophomore
Although Robinson sometimes underachieved in college, his game is tailor maid for the pro game.  He’s an athletic freak with developing offensive skill, and would give OKC another weapon in the backcourt.

22.

Mem

 Missouri Jordan Clarkson
PG/SG 6’4   187lbs   Junior
One of the best athletes in the draft, Clarkson doesn’t have a set position but would provide some much needed help offensively in the backcourt alongside Mike Conley Jr.

23.

Utah

Washington
CJ Wilcox
SG 6’5   201lbs  Senior
Wilcox is one of the Draft’s fastest risers and projects as an elite perimeter shooter that can help right away.  He provides excellent insurance if Gordon Hayward leaves in free agency.

24.

Cha

Syracuse
Jerami Grant
SF/PF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
Charlotte needs athletes and Grant fits the bill.  He’s a super athletic forward that defends, rebounds, and out-hustled opponents at Syracuse.  An excellent addition alongside Gilchrist and McDermott  at the 3.

25.

Hou

 Syracuse Tyler Ennis
PG 6’2   180lbs   Freshman
The former Syracuse product has been sliding a bit and would be an excellent fit with the Rockets, who may move Jeremy Lin and his expensive contract prior to next season.

26.

Mia

UConn
Shabazz Napier
 SG 6’0   175lbs   Senior
With Mario Chalmers assuredly not returning next season, Ennis or Finals MVP Napier would be in play here to help run the point for Lebron and Co. in Miami.

27.

Pho

Tennessee
Jarnell Stokes
PF 6’8   260lbs   Junior
Although a bit undersized, Stokes has a tremendously strong lower body and projects well as an elite rebounder and low post scorer.  Some have gone as far as to compare him to the next Charles Barkley although he wasn’t a superstar at Tennessee.

28.

LAC

Wichita St
Cleanthony Early
 SF 6’7   215lbs   Senior
One of the top seniors in the class, Early is an athletic, jack of all trades small forward that will help a team immediately, perfect for the Playoff bound Clippers.

29.

OKC

UNC/D-League
PJ Hairston
 SG 6’5   228lbs   Junior
Attitude and getting released from UNC will come in to play on draft day, but Hairston is ready made for the NBA from day one.  He lit up the D-League scoreboards last season and would provide another excellent compliment to Westbrook and Durant.

30.

SA

 Michigan Mitch McGary
PF 6’10   266lb   Sophomore
The oft injured McGary has refused to work out with any teams over the past few weeks, raising a red flag that he has a guarantee from a 1st Round team, widely rumored to be the Spurs.

We are now just a month away from the highly anticipated 2014 NBA Draft.

Following a surprising NBA Draft Lottery where Cleveland snagged the top overall selection for the 2nd consecutive year, we can now begin to formulate our newest Mock Draft based on team needs.

The top tier obviously includes a trio of talented freshmen, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid, but how the top 3 picks will unfold depends squarely on the health of Kansas center Embiid.

There are several of other value picks in the top 15, including Kentucky forward Julius Randle, Creighton’s Doug McDermott, and Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart.

Most experts agree that this should be one of the deepest crops of potential draftees in years, so even late drafting teams like Miami, OKC, and San Antonio should get some impact players for next season.

These are only my choices and not the consensus picks of all of The Hoop Doctors writers, with that said here is my 2014 Mock Draft:Version 4.0.

Draft Order College Team Player Position Physical

1.

Cle

 Kansas Joel Embiid
C 7’0   250lbs   Freshman
If healthy, Embiid is hands down the #1 pick.  Pairing Kyrie Irving with the Hakeem Olajuwon clone would make quite the intimidating duo in the Eastern Conference going forward.  If anything shady comes up in his medical, Wiggins could be in play here.

2.

Mil

 Duke Jabari Parker
 PF 6’8   235lbs   Freshman
Assuming that Embiid is taken, the Bucks need a player that can put up points immediately and can be paired in their rebuilding efforts around the Greek Freak, John Henson, and Brandon Knight.  Cleveland is always a wildcard at #1 and if they get spooked by Embiid’s medical, Wiggins or Embiid could be in play at #2 as well.

3.

Phi

Kansas Andrew Wiggins
SF 6’8   200lbs   Freshman
Tanking apparently will pay off in Philly as they will wind up with the remainder of either Wiggins or Parker at #3.  Wiggins was their target all along and they could be lucky enough for the player with the most upside to fall into their laps because of team need.  If Embiid is still available here, Philly would be foolish to take a gamble on another injured center following the Bynum disaster and Noel sitting out last season.

4.

 Orl

Austrailia
Dante Exum
 PG/SG 6’6   195lbs   Intl
Exum is this year’s International man of mystery but many project him in the mold of Anfernee Hardaway as an athletic PG with offensive capabilities.  Pairing Exum with Victor Oladipo could shore up the Magic backcourt for a decade.

5.

Utah

Arizona
Aaron Gordon
SF/PF 6’9   225lbs   Freshman
The Jazz are set at PG(Burke), SG(Hayward and Burks), PF(Favors), and C(Kanter), so the uber athletic Gordon fits in well at SF, since he will probably struggle to defend bigger frontcourt players at the next level.  Marcus Smart could also be an option here if the team is unsure about re-signing Hayward long term.

6.

Bos

Indiana
Noah Vonleh
PF/C 6’9   250lbs   Freshman
One of the fastest risers in the draft, Vonleh has vaulted ahead of Julius Randle in most Mocks and is probably the best player available when the Celtics draft at #6.  Vonleh measured the largest hands at the Combine and could push Jared Sullinger for starting PF duties or play some at center against a small line-up, a la Chris Bosh in Miami.

7.

LAL

 OK State Marcus Smart
PG 6’3   230lbs   Sophomore
Despite getting in some trouble in his sophomore season at OK State, Smart projects as a difference maker from either the PG or SG position in the pros.  His intensity, leadership, muscular frame, and high basketball IQ should mesh well with Kobe and the new look/rebuilding Lakers.

8.

Sac

Kentucky
Julius Randle
 PF 6’9   250lbs   Freshman
Not sure why Randle is slipping, but he appears a good fit alongside fellow former Wildcat DeMarcus Cousins in the Kings frontcourt.  Randle has been compared to a more athletic Zach Randolph but there are some concerns that he is too left hand centric.  Grabbing a player at his age, size, and ability this late in the 1st Round is a no brainer.

9.

Cha

Michigan
Nik Stauskas
 SG 6’6   215lbs   Sophomore
Not many players have improved from freshman to sophomore season than Stauskas, who went from 3 point specialist to one of the most talented offensive players on the board.  He has prototypical size for the SG position and fits well in the rapidly rising Hornets, who made the postseason for the first time in years this past season.

10.

Phi

 Creighton Doug McDermott
SF 6’7   220lbs   Senior
If Philly takes Parker at #3, they may go in a different direction, but it’s no secret that reigning NBA ROY Michael Carter-Williams needs more talented offensive players around him.  Enter one of the college ranks’ most prolific scorers nicknamed “McBuckets”, who could get major minutes from day one as a rookie.

11.

Den

 UCLA Zach Lavine
 PG/SG 6’6   180lbs   Freshman
Dubbed the 2nd coming of Russell Westbrook because of some insane athleticism, Lavine is still rough, rugged, and raw after just one season with the Bruins.  He would be a great fit alongside budding star Ty Lawson in the Nuggets backcourt of the future.  Thanks NY Knicks.

12.

Orl

Mich State
Gary Harris
 SG 6’4   205lbs   Sophomore
Considered one of the top SG prospects in the draft, Harris was a key contributor in helping the Spartans advance deep in the NCAA’s the past 2 seasons.  Harris would provide excellent depth at the 2 guard position behind Oladipo and potentially Dante Exum.

13.

Min

UCLA Kyle Anderson
 SF 6’9   230lbs   Sophomore
One of the wildcards of the draft, the 6’9 multi-talented Anderson is nicknamed “Slo-Mo” for a supposed lack of athleticism but he was arguably the most valuable player in the PAC-12 Conference last season.  It appears as if Kevin Love is on his way out of Minnesota so the Wolves should begin to either surround him with more weapons or stockpile frontcourt talent to replace him.

14.

Pho

Kentucky James Young
SF/SG 6’7   215lbs   Freshman
A sweet shooting left hander with near unlimited offensive potential, Young has favorably been compared to both Brad Beal and even Ray Allen at the next level.  Phoenix would be getting a potential long term starter at either the 2 or 3 alongside Dragic and Bledsoe.

15.

Atl

Wichita St
Cleanthony Early
SF 6’8   215lbs   Senior
One of the top seniors on one of the nation’s top teams over the last few seasons, Early is a bit older than most prospects but would be a great fit in Atlanta as they probably are in win now mode with Teague, Millsap, and Horford all returning next season.  Early reminds many of James Posey in his prime.

16.

Chi

UConn
Shabazz Napier
 PG 6’0   175lbs   Senior
Fresh of leading the Huskies to the 2014 National Title, Napier’s stock has never been higher.  Some question his athleticism at the next level but he has all of the intangibles to be an outstanding floor general and added insurance policy at PG as Derrick Rose attempts a comeback times 2.

17.

Bos

 Croatia Dario Saric
 SF/PF 6’10   225lbs   Intl
Boston needs alot and should go in the 15-20 range as some have proclaimed him as the 2nd coming of Dirk Nowitzki, at least against foreign competition.  He has an amazing skill set to play either the 3 or 4 position and has an amazing upside as a stretch 4, perfect alongside one of the NBA’s best assist men Rajon Rondo.

18.

Pho

NC State
TJ Warren
 SG/SF 6’8   220lbs   Sophomore
If you want instant offense, TJ Warren is your man.  He was among the nation’s leaders in scoring last season and despite only average athleticism, he consistently was a problem to defend at the collegiate level.  Warren make the Suns much more potent in a tough Western Conference and an insurance policy if the Suns cannot resign Bledsoe.

19.

Chi

Duke
Rod Hood
SF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
Hood may be the long term answer at the 3 for the retooling Bulls as an athletic wing scorer, with above average defensive skills, and 3 point range.  Once thought of as a Top 10 pick, Hood has slid a bit as late as many now see him as a Rashard Lewis type perimeter threat.

20.

Tor

Syracuse
Tyler Ennis
 PG 6’2   180lbs   Freshman
After a spectacular freshman season at Syracuse, Ennis has parlayed his early collegiate success into a legitimate 1st Round talent.  Ennis is a native of Canada and would be excellent insurance if Kyle Lowery goes the free agent route.

21.

OKC

D-League(UNC)
PJ Hairston
 SG 6’5   230lbs   Junior
The formerly disgraced Tarheel was one of the top scorers in the NBA D-League this season.  He has excellent size, athleticism, and elite perimeter scoring to be the 3rd scoring option the Thunder need to get over the hump and get back to the Finals.

22.

Mem

 Mich St Adrien Payne
PF 6’10   240lbs   Senior
Prototypical stretch 4 at the next level, Payne comes from playing at an elite program for 4 years, improving his game each season.  He had an outstanding 2014 NCAA Tournament, proving his worth as an athletic PF in the NBA.  With Zach Randolph a potential free agent, Payne could step in and play right away.

23.

Utah

Michigan
Glenn Robinson III
 SF 6’7   215lbs   Sophomore
The son of former NCAA and NBA great “Big Dog” Robinson didn’t have the best sophomore season with the Wolverines but tested off the charts at the Combine.  Robinson would fit nicely in the Jazz backcourt as yet another offensive option for star PG Trey Burke.

24.

Cha

Syracuse
Jerami Grant
 SF/PF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
As Charlotte’s 2nd first round selection, MJ and the Hornets can take a gamble on the uber athletic and still raw forward from Syracuse that could develop into a starter in a few years.  After all, Jerami is the nephew of former Chicago Bulls great Horace Grant, so the NBA is in his genes.

25.

Hou

 Baylor Isaiah Austin
 PF/C 7’1   225lbs   Sophomore
Austin has the size and length to be an elite player in the NBA, at least on the defensive side of the ball.  But in his 2 years at Baylor he struggled to add weight to his slight frame and it was revealed that he is partially blind in one eye.  With that being said, he’s a legit 7’1, with a 7’6 wingspan, that has 3 point shooting capabilities, an excellent change-up to Dwight Howard in the post.

26.

Mia

Louisiana-Laf

Efrid Payton
PG 6’4   185lbs   Junior
Payton has been on the NBA’s radar for a few seasons and is a big, athletic, point guard that many experts have compared to Rajon Rondo.  Miami has a decision to make with free agent to be Mario Chalmers, as Norris Cole and Payton could be the PG tandem of the future in Miami.

27.

Pho

Bosnia
Jusuf Nurkic
 C 6’11   280lbs   Intl
Immense size and low post presence, two things in need in Phoenix.  Miles Plumlee was good but better served as a reserve.  Nurkic is getting a ton of 1st Round love as a Nikola Pekovic clone but with better mobility.

28.

LAC

OK State
Markel Brown
SG 6’5   185lbs   Senior
One of the best athletes on the collegiate level, Brown was often overshadowed by his highly touted teammate Marcus Smart.  He tested through the roof at the Combine and would be a perfect infusion of youth into the Clippers backcourt.

29.

OKC

Missouri
Jordan Clarkson
 PG/SG 6’4   185lbs   Junior
While his final set position in the pros is to be determined, Clarkson is an elite athlete that can play either backcourt position.  OKC is notorious for taking a chance on athletic perimeter players, a la Reggie Jackson…………enter Clarkson.

30.

SA

 Tennessee Jarnell Stokes
 PF 6’8   260lbs   Junior
Possessing massive size for the PF position, Stokes as potential as an elite rebounder off the bench, a la DeJuan Blair a few seasons ago.  Stokes would be a perfect late 1st Round pick for a contending team like the Spurs, adding youth to an aging roster.

Upwards of 10-12 teams have been suspected of tanking for the services of potential impact players like freshmen Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Julius Randle.

Rightfully so, considering the immense amount of talent when it comes to 1st Round talent in this year’s draft.  Besides the talented freshmen, there’s also some experienced college players like Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott, Adrien Payne, and Kyle Anderson that could fill an immediate need for a number of teams in need.

These picks are based solely on best player available without taking into consideration as to team needs yet.

These are only my choices and not the consensus picks of all of The Hoop Doctors writers, with that said here is my 2013 Mock Draft:Version 3.0.

Draft Order College Team Player Position Physical

1.

Mil

 Kansas Andrew Wiggins
 SF 6’8   200lbs   Freshman
After many had criticized Wiggins for being too passive over the early part of the season, he has begun to show why he has the biggest upside of any prospect in this year’s draft.  Quickest first step and most athleticism of a player in years as some predict he could be the next Tracy McGrady that plays defense.

2.

Phi

Duke Jabari Parker
 SF/PF 6’8   235lbs   Freshman
Losing in the 1st Round of the NCAA Tourney probably won’t hurt his draft stock as Parker is arguably the most ready prospect in this year’s draft to come in and put up numbers right away.  May not be as athletic or have as big of an upside as Wiggins but the Carmelo Anthony clone is a nice fallback option at #2.

3.

Orl

Australia Dante Exum
 PG/SG 6’6   190lbs   Intl
Some scouts have suggested that despite playing overseas, Exum could one day be the best player to come out of this draft.  His outstanding size and quickness at the point guard position has seen him compared to a young Anfernee Hardaway or Michael Carter-Williams with a better jump shot.

4.

Utah

Kansas
Joel Embiid
 C 7’0   250lbs   Freshman
Embiid remains the best big man prospect in the draft but concerns over a back injury definitely may hurt his stock as many don’t want a repeat of Greg Oden a few years ago.  With that being said, he eerily resembles HOF center Hakeem Olajuwon in the post.

5.

LAL

Kentucky
Julius Randle
 PF 6’9   250lbs   Freshman
Despite Kentucky’s growing pains this season, Randle remains a bright spot as one of only 4 players to average a double-double in the NCAA this season.  He’s a bull inside the painted area and projects as a prolific low post power player at the next level with above average handles and 3 point ability.  Think a more powerful Jamal Mashburn.

6.

Bos

 OK State Marcus Smart
 PG 6’4   220lbs   Sophomore
Smart has had an up and down sophomore season but could be one of the sleepers in this year’s draft as he is an elite defender and born leader.  His well built frame is tailor made for the next level and has some sneaky athleticism that is better than originally thought.  Smart could come in and be an impact player from Day 1.

7.

Sac

 Indiana Noah Vonleh
 PF 6’10   240lbs   Freshman
One of the most intriguing young prospects in this year’s class, Vonleh had a stellar freshman campaign despite Indiana having a down year.  Prototypical size for the PF position, Vonleh has a motor that doesn’t quit, great rebounding instincts, and developing offensive set.

8.

Det

Creighton
Doug McDermott
 SF 6’7   230lbs   Senior
The comparisons to Larry Bird may be a stretch but “McBuckets” is a legitimate Top 5 all time NCAA scorer and moves extremely well wint and without the ball.  He’s an offensive force that an innate knack for scoring the rock.  Unlike some high scoring college players before him(ie, Jimmer Fredette), McDermott has the size and staying power to be a very good player in the NBA.

9.

Cle

Syracuse
Jerami Grant
 SF/PF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
The nephew of former Chicago Bulls star Horace Grant has battled injuries but is arguably Syracuse’s most athletic player.  Another year in college could make him a POY candidate but the developing forward is already getting Lottery buzz for his rebounding, finishing ability, defense, and length.

10.

Phi

Arizona Aaron Gordon
 SF/PF 6’8   220lbs Freshman
Viewed as Blake Griffin Lite, Gordon has excelled as a defensive demon after Arizona forward Brandon Ashley went down for the season.  His intensity and desire to win is infectious.  He’s a physical freak that is still getting better but finishes better than any player in the draft.

11.

Den

Duke Rod Hood
 SF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
Somewhat in the shadows of Jabari Parker, the former Miss State transfer is one of Coach K’s favorite all time players after just one season.  He should be a lock to go in the Lottery for his stat-stuffing abilities and elite 3 point prowess from the SF position.

12.

Orl

Michigan St
Gary Harris
 SG 6’4   210lbs   Sophomore
The tough as nails guard has battled injures in his 2 seasons with the Spartans but is one of the nation’s top SG’s despite being slightly undersized.  The former HS football standout is an unbelievable athlete, above average defender, and capable scorer for one of the nation’s top teams.

13.

Min

Louisville Montrezl Harrell
 PF 6’8   240lbs   Sophomore
In just two seasons under Rick Pitiino, Harrell has developed into one of the most sought after forwards in the college ranks because of some freakish athleticism, defensive prowess, and rebounding ability.  Many see him as the 2nd coming of Kenneth Faried.

14.

Pho

Syracuse Tyler Ennis
 PG 6’2   180lbs   Freshman
One of the nation’s top freshmen, Ennis has taken over for MCW and hit the ground running, as the maestro of one of the nation’s top teams.  He’s a born leader that rarely turns over the basketball with an underrated scoring stroke.  With tons of experience on the International stage, Ennis appears much more mature than a college freshman.

15.

Bos

UCLA
Kyle Anderson
 PG/SF 6’9   230lbs   Sophomore
Easily the college game’s quintessential “match-up nightmare”, Anderson is an under the rim type player that amazingly can play any position from PG to PF with the Bruins.  His 6’9 frame is perfect for the next level and despite a perceived lack of athleticism, “Slo-Mo” could be a walking triple-double in the NBA, reminding many of Lamar Odom.

16.

Chi

Kentucky
James Young
 SG/SF 6’7   215lbs   Freshman
Another one of Kentucky’s star freshmen, Young is an elite offensive force that excels from behind the arc.  He projects well at the next level as a sharpshooting SF with above average ball-handling skills.  Another year in college would do wonders but left-handed marksmen are a commodity in the Association.

17.

Pho

 Michigan St Adrien Payne
 PF 6’10   245lbs   Senior
Minus the injuries this season, Payne would probably be a lock for the Lottery as he has tremendous size, athleticism, and range for the PF position.  Finally healthy, he has game takeover ability, as evidence of his 41 point outburst in the NCAA Tourney.

18.

Atl

Baylor
Isaiah Austin
 PF/C 7’2   220lbs   Sophomore
Possessing incredible size and length, Austin had a solid sophomore season at Baylor, leading them to another NCAA Tourney birth.  He still is rather thin but rebounds and blocks shots at an above average rate in addition to having offensive range outside the 3 point arc.

19.

Chi

NC State
TJ Warren
 SF 6’8   225lbs   Sophomore
One of the nation’s most improved players, Warren has emerged as an elite scorer that quite simply drops buckets at an alarming rate.  He helped lead an undermanned NC State squad back to the NCAA Tourney, scoring 30 and 40 points in game on multiple occasions.

20.

Tor

Croatia
Dario Saric
 SF/PF 6’10   225lbs   Intl
Many have touted Saric as the “Next Dirk” because of his ability to score, push the ball, and play within the painted area.  He could be a game changer at the next level but concerns remain about a lack of foot speed and ability to defend quicker players.  Potential diamond in the rough?

21.

OKC

UConn
Shabazz Napier
 PG 6’1   190lbs   Senior
Easily one of the nation’s top PG’s, Napier is the unquestioned leader of the Huskies and boasts winning an NCAA Title on his resume alongside Kemba Walker 2 seasons ago.  Although small in stature, Napier is a stat stuffer, providing timely assists, clutch scoring, above average rebounding, and tough defense.

22.

Mem

 UNC James Michael-McAdoo
 SF/PF 6’8   230lbs   Junior
After 3 seasons at UNC, it may finally be time for McAdoo, a former highly touted HS player, to move on to the NBA.  He is a unique physical specimen that rebounds well and scores within the painted area but may be a tweaner at the next level.

23.

Utah

Kentucky
Willie Cauley-Stein
C 7’0   230lbs   Sophomore
Once thought of as a bonafide Lottery pick, the 7 foot athletic shot-blocker has failed to develop much of an offensive game in his two seasons at Kentucky.  He has game-changing shot-blocking ability and an immense amount of athleticism but not star potential at the next level.

24.

Cha

Michigan
Nik Stauskas
 SG 6’5   190lbs   Sophomore
In just his 2nd season at Michigan, Stauskas has emerged as an elite perimeter threat, leading the Wolverines to the NCAA Championship game last season.  An unconscious 3 point shooter, Stauskas has improved ball-handling skill and can score off the bounce and spot up situations.

25.

Hou

Florida Patric Young
 PF/C 6’9   250lbs   Senior
Possessing the physique of an NFL defensive end, few players are more physical inside the painted area than Young.  He brings experience, physicality, and rebounding but is average at best offensively.  Going deep in the Tournament may boost his stock to late Lottery.

26.

LAC

Wichita St
Cleanthony Early
 SF 6’8   230lbs   Senior
Because of playing in a smaller conference, Early is often overlooked, but is an National Wooden Award candidate.  At 6’8, he is a match-up nightmare at the 3, that brings scoring, rebounding, and defense in helping the Shockers finish a perfect 34-0 regular season.

27.

Mia

Louisville
Russ Smith
 PG/SG 6’0   175lbs   Senior
One of the nation’s most exciting to watch players, Smith scores with ease and is impossible to guard in the open floor.  Measured favorably at an even 6 foot, size is an obvious concern at the next level.  May be tailor made for a 6th man role in the NBA.

28.

OKC

UCLA
Zach Lavine
 PG/SG 6’5   180lbs   Freshman
Although only a freshman, LaVine has already drawn comparisons to OKC Thunder PG Russell Westbrook for an amazing amount of athleticism from the PG position.  Overshadowed a bit by teammate Kyle Anderson, LaVine could be one of the nation’s top players if he returns next season.

29.

Pho

D-League
(UNC)
PJ Hairston
 SG/SF 6’4   230lbs  Junior
Exiled from UNC, Hairston has found a home in the NBA D-League.  He has torched opposing defenses, dropping 40 points in a game with the Texas Legends, opening eyes of NBA scouts that could envision him as a starting 2 guard with impressive size and perimeter skills.

30.

SA

Kentucky Aaron Harrison
SG 6’5   190lbs   Freshman
A tad disappointing as a freshman, and one half of Kentucky’s highly touted Harrison twins, SG Aaron averaged nearly 14 ppg and showed outstanding size and an elite 3 point range on his jump-shot.  Staying another season could see him become a POY candidate but Kentucky is known for churning out NBA prospects.

This year’s prized crop of potential one-and-done immediate impact freshman like Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Julius Randle have been every bit as good as expected.

What we didn’t see coming is just how good some of the returning upperclassmen like Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott, and Shabazz Napier could be.

Players like Kansas freshman Joel Embiid and UCLA’s fellow fab frosh Zach LaVine continue to rise as previously thought of Lottery picks Glenn Robinson III and Wayne Selden have slipped a bit.

Order of selection is determined by current NBA records, without considering trade or draft exceptions to this point.

These are only my choices and not the consensus picks of all of The Hoop Doctors writers, with that said here is my 2014 Mock Draft:Version 2.0:

Draft Order College Team Projection Position Physical

1.

Mil

 Duke Jabari Parker
 SF/PF 6’8   235lbs   Freshman
Parker has surpassed both Wiggins and Randle to be the most prolific offensive weapon in the college ranks.  Many compare Jabari to Carmelo Anthony, which appears spot on.

2.

Utah

OK State
Marcus Smart
 PG/SG 6’4   220lbs   Sophomore
Smart made the right decision to return for his sophomore season, surprisingly getting even better as a perimeter shooter, defender, and leader, to be in the running for the top overall pick.

3.

Den

(from NY)

Kansas
Andrew Wiggins
 SF 6’8   200lbs   Freshman
Wiggins slips a bit, but still impresses scouts with his amazing athleticism and feel for the game at such a young age.  A recent career high 26 point effort has helped his cause but has yet to show the killer instinct to take over a game.

4.

Phi

 Kentucky Julius Randle
 PF  6’9   250lbs   Freshman
Randle remains a beast within the painted area, leading all NCAA players in double-doubles.  He has been individually brilliant but has not figured out how to make his teammates better with Kentucky already losing 3 games.

5.

BK

 Austrailia Dante Exum
 PG/SG 6’6   200lbs   International
This year’s International man of mystery reminds many of former NBA star Penny Hardaway because of his immense size at the PG position.  Most agree he will be a good one but has played no higher than the high school level overseas.

6.

Orl

Kansas
Joel Embiid
 C 7’0   250lbs   Freshman
One of the fastest risers this season, the legit 7 footer instantly reminds many of his idol Hakeem Olajuwon for his offensive repertoire of shakes and up-and-under moves.  he’s still a project since he’s only been playing hoops for 2 years but may have as much upside of any player.

7.

Cle

 Arizona Aaron Gordon
 SF/PF 6’8   230lbs   Freshman
The jury is still out on what his NBA position will be but his athleticism, leaping ability, and defensive presence are not in question.  He’s compared to a slightly smaller version of Blake Griffin and an ultimate key cog on the #1 team in the nation.

8.

Sac

 UCLA
Zach LaVine
 PG/SG 6’5   180lbs   Freshman
Perhaps no player is flying up the draft boards as fast as the ultra athletic freshman that reminds many of OKC Thunder PG Russell Westbrook.  He’s a dunking phenom that has averaged nearly 14 ppg off the bench that will only get better.

9.

Chi

 Michigan St Gary Harris
 SG 6’4   210lbs   Sophomore
Although there may be some concerns about some nagging injuries, Harris just might be the best all around shooting guard in the country.  The former HS football standout is tough as nails and has been clutch for the Spartans this season.

10.

LAL

 Indiana Noah Vonleh
 PF/C 6’10   240lbs   Freshman
One of the nation’s best freshmen, Vonleh has arguably been the Hoosiers’ best player.  The natural power forward has a motor that reminds many of Dennis Rodman and is a defensive and rebounding force in the painted area.

11.

Bos

Kentucky
James Young
 SF 6’6   215lbs   Freshman
A naturally gifted southpaw shooter, Young has quietly been getting better as the season goes on and may emerge as the Wildcats’ leading scorer by season’s end.  If he stays another year to add more strength, he could be one of the nation’s top offensive players.

12.

Det

Mich State Adrien Payne
 PF 6’10   240lbs   Senior
Payne made the right choice to return to the Spartans for his senior season, making big strides in his mid-range shooting, rebounding, and focusing on being more of a leader.  His recent 33 point, 9 rebound effort against Texas proves he’s one of the most gifted big men in the nation.

13.

Mem

 Creighton Doug McDermott
 SF 6’8   225lbs   Senior
Undoubtedly the nation’s most accomplished senior and offensive player, McDermott has picked up right where he left off last season, scoring 25+ppg and leading Creighton into their first season in the Big East.  His potential is all over the board as either the 2nd coming of Larry Bird or a 3 point specialist like Kyle Korver.

14.

Chi

 Syracuse Jerami Grant
 SF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
Grant, the nephew of former NBA standout Horace Grant, has surpassed CJ Fair as Syracuse’s best pro prospect.  He reminds many of 76ers forward Thaddeus Young as a do-it-all, hustling SF on the nation’s #2 ranked team.

15.

Den

 Kentucky Willie Cauley-Stein
 C 7’0   235lbs   Sophomore
Cauley-Stein has made great strides from his freshman season emerging as one of the nation’s best shot-blockers.  Unfortunately his offensive game is still a work in progress but some have projected him as a Tyson Chandler type center at the next level.

16.

NO

Michigan
Glenn Robinson III
 SF 6’6   215lbs   Sophomore
Robinson started the year out slow but has gradually eased into his role as the Wolverines’ best all around offensive player.  Michigan has struggles some this season but there is still time for Robinson to live up to potentially being a Top 10 selection by March.

17.

Tor

Kentucky
Andrew Harrison
 PG 6’5   215lbs   Freshman
Perceived bad body language has plagued both Harrison twins all season but Andrew has slowly started to pick up Coach Calipari’s system and helped lead the Cats in a big win over rival Kentucky.  Despite his struggles he has prototypical size for PG at the next level.

18.

Min

Louisville Montrezl Harrell
 PF 6’8   235lbs   Sophomore
Undoubtedly the Cardinals’ best frontcourt player, Harrell’s numbers will go up now that Chane Behanan has been dismissed from the program.  Despite being a tad undersized, Harrell is a beast down low that has been compared to Denver’s Kenneth Faried.

19.

Was

Xavier Semaj Christon
 PG 6’3   190lbs   Sophomore
Last season’s A-10 Freshman of the Year has great size and ability for the next level but has struggled a bit his sophomore season.  He’s a PG in a shooting guard’s body but needs more seasoning and could be a Lottery selection if he returns for his junior season.

20.

Atl

 Duke Rod Hood
 SF/PF 6’8   215lbs   Sophomore
After sitting out all of last season as a Mississippi State transfer, Hood has been brilliant as another talented frontcourt weapon for the Blue Devils.  He is a better rebounder and defender than Parker but will be a small forward in the NBA.

21.

Dal

 Louisville Russ Smith
 PG/SG 6’0   170lbs   Senior
Last season “Russdiculous” was arguably the nation’s hardest to guard players in leading Louisville to a National Title.  He remains an elite scorer but has become much more efficient and a better facilitator, which bodes well as he would have to be a PG in the NBA.

22.

GS

Croatia
Dario Saric
 PF 6’10   225lbs   International
This year’s most intriguing International prospect, Saric has immense offensive potential that some have proclaimed him unfairly as the next “Dirk”.  After withdrawing late from last year’s draft, the 19 year old has excelled overseas, helping his club win the Croatian Championship and winning MVP honors.  He averaged an impressive 25.6 ppg in helping Croatia win the 2012 U-18 crown.

23.

Hou

Baylor Isaiah Austin
 PF/C 7’2   220lbs   Sophomore
Austin has played well, leading Baylor to a Top 10 ranking, returning for his sophomore season.  He still remains thin and gets pushed around the low block but is an elite shot-blocker and has offensive skills to behind the 3 point line.  One can’t teach size, and Austin’s 7’2 frame is a commodity in the NBA.

24.

Pho

Syracuse CJ Fair
 SF 6’7   215lbs   Senior
Fair has had a stellar senior season to this point emerging as a National Player of the Year candidate.  He has a high basketball IQ and just seems to be in the right place at the right time, leading Syracuse in scoring and helping them to a #2 ranking.

25.

LAC

 Michigan
Mitch McGary
 PF 6’10   265lbs   Sophomore
Mainly due to some nagging injuries, McGary’s stock has slipped from the end of last season where he was once projected as a Lottery pick.  While his energy and tenacity is a given, his athleticism can be described as average at best.  Once thought of as a star player in the NBA, he now looks more to be a rebounding forward off the bench like DeJuan Blair.

26.

Mia

 Syracuse Tyler Ennis
 PG 6’2   180lbs   Freshman
Ennis may wind up being the Orange’s most important player as he should be in the conversation with Wiggins, Parker, and Randle as the best freshman in the country.  He plays like a senior, has a tremendous assist-to-turnover ratio, and has single-handedly helped lead his team to victory through his passing and defensive skills.

27.

Por

UNC
James Michael-McAdoo
 SF/PF 6’8   230lbs   Junior
McAdoo has been on the NBA’s radar for 3 seasons now but despite having a prototypical NBA frame, he hasn’t lived up to the hype of once being a Top 5 HS player.  He has had his moments, putting up 3 double-doubles but has also tallied single digits in 4 other games.  With PJ Hairston now gone from the program, now is the time for McAdoo to become UNC’s leader.

28.

SA

Ok State
Markel Brown
 SG 6’3   190lbs   Senior
Much of the attention surrounding Oklahoma State has been focused on National POY Marcus Smart, but senior Markel Brown is an NBA caliber guard as well.  He has put in work from initially just being an elite dunker to one of the best scorers in the country.

29.

OKC

UConn
Shabazz Napier
 PG 6’1   185lbs   Senior
Napier is doing a spot on impersonation of former UConn standout Kemba Walker a few seasons ago.  He is one of the frontrunners for National POY by hitting numerous clutch shots, helping the Huskies once again be a Top 25 mainstay.

30.

Ind

 Florida Chris Walker
 PF 6’10   220lbs   Freshman
Despite not yet playing in a collegiate game, the highly touted HS player with Lottery potential is finally eligible for the 2nd semester and will make an immediate impact for Florida.  He’s been favorably compared to Kevin Garnett and had 39 points and 26 rebounds in a single game last season.

The 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers came out on fire to begin the season, starting with a surprising opening night win over Lebron James and the 2 time defending NBA Champion Miami Heat.

Despite losing prized rookie Nerlens Noel probably for the entire season, Michael Carter-Williams, the #11 overall pick in last year’s draft has arguably been the best rookie on the planet, regularly flirting with a triple-double, while leading the Association in steals.

New coach Brett Brown has instilled a defensive identity and has invigorated former #2 pick Evan Turner, finally freed from the Doug Collins doghouse, into a potential All Star and legit 20 ppg scorer.

So what happened to all of the talk of “tanking?”  In a bad Atlantic Division, Philly has flirted with first place, by virtue even potentially earning a Top 4 seed in the East as a result.

That was until a recent losing skid which has seen Philly drop 8-10 games, partly due to not having the services of Carter-Williams due to injury.  The Sixers are now falling back to where we originally thought they would be, having one of the worst records in the league.

Losing is not completely a bad thing as that was the plan all along, stockpile draft picks in the loaded 2014 Draft, and make a speedy return to respectability and even compete for an NBA crown in a few seasons.

I’m not sure most understand just how good of a situation the 76ers could be in.  They already have their own projected Top 5 pick(they have the 6th worst record right now) plus the New Orleans Pelicans pick, which also should be in the 9-12 range, unless Anthony Davis remains out for an extended period of time.  Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans have also had trouble staying healthy so a top 10 pick wouldn’t be out of the question.

Now, it’s no secret that veteran 76ers Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes, and Evan Turner are all rumored to be on the trading block.  Spencer Hawes, in the midst of a career year(15.1 ppg, 9.7 reb, 1.6 blk, .427 3PT%), is in the final year of his deal.

Thad Young(15.8 ppg, 7.1 reb, 1.3 stl) and Evan Turner(20.7 ppg, 6.6 reb, 3.9 ast) could be key players come the trade deadline.  Young is still owed more than $9 million next season plus a player option for ’14-’15 while Turner becomes a restricted free agent following this year.

Young is probably the most in demand, especially to a contending team like Houston, in search of an athletic PF to pair with Dwight Howard.  Hawes could either be dealt to a team in need of a multi-talented big that is one of the better 3 point shooters in the league(check the numbers), but it is still unclear what Turner’s future is in Philly as it seems that the former NCAA POY has finally figured the NBA game out.

A trade of any of the three by the team would undoubtedly require a 1st round pick in return bringing Philadelphia a total of 3 1st Rounders in next year’s loaded draft.

The Sixers also have 3 2nd Rounders next June that could be packaged to produce another 1st Round pick, giving Philly a minimum of at least 4 1st Round picks in a draft that includes prized freshmen players like Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle, and Jabari Parker plus a bevy of talented upperclassmen like Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott, Russ Smith, and Shabazz Napier.

Add in the fact that with giving a qualifying offer to Turner for next season, the Sixers have only a tad more than $23 million on the books, giving them some of the most money of any team to spend in free agency.

Think of a starting line-up of MCW, Marcus Smart, Evan Turner, Aaron Gordon, and Nerlens Noel, plus help off the bench from Doug McDermott, Adrien Payne, Tony Wroten, and Arnett Moultrie, plus another mid to high level free agent.

It may look dire right now, but the picture is becoming clear that the future is bright in Philly, as they could be one of the most exciting teams on the rise for next season.

Don’t look now, but University of Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins may have some stiff competition, when it comes to the #1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

It’s super early, but Kentucky freshman Julius Randle, who has been favorably compared to Lebron James, looked every bit the player that numerous NBA teams are already in “Tank Mode” for, as he piled up 23 points and 15 rebounds in only 26 minutes in an opening night win over UNC-Asheville.

I know, it’s UNC-Asheville, let’s see what he does against Tennessee or Florida’s larger frontline once SEC play begins.  I get it, but everything now points to Randle, potentially being the most ready instant impact player come draft day next June.

To put the numbers in perspective, per 35 minutes, Randle would have entered the collegiate record books by becoming one of the very few players to ever register a monstrous 30 point, 21 rebound performance in his NCAA debut.

Fellow highly touted freshmen and potential one-and-done Lottery prospects like Andrew Wiggins(16 points and 3 steals), Jabari Parker(22 points and 6 rebounds) of Duke, and Aaron Gordon(13 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks) of Arizona also had stellar debuts, but Randle looked most impressive……..

Julius Randle’s Kentucky Debut(23 Pts):

We have all been told that the 2014 NBA Draft is so packed with talent that there will potentially be upwards of 8-10 franchise players available, including the unanimous top pick Andrew Wiggins.

This is supposed to be the deepest draft since 2003, when Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade burst onto the NBA scene and become eventual superstars.

The 2014 version will see numerous NBA teams in “Tank Mode” for the services of not only Wiggins, but players like Julius Randle, Jabari Parker, and Marcus Smart.

Although we are still roughly 300 days until the actual 2014 NBA Draft, it’s never too early to predict the prospects.

As such, these Mock Draft rankings are based on potential with this year’s Draft order based on last season’s team records from the NBA regular season, without taking into consideration for team needs as of yet.

These are only my choices and not the consensus picks of all of The Hoop Doctors writers, with that said here is my 2013 Mock Draft:Version 1.0.

Draft Order College Team Player Position Physical

1.

Orl

 Kansas Andrew Wiggins
SF 6’8 200lbs Freshman
Touted as the best pro prospect since Kevin Durant, Wiggins is blessed with through the roof athleticism and an elite level ability to score the basketball.  He is still rather thin but could be the best player in college basketball as a freshman next season.

2.

Cha

 Kentucky Julius Randle
PF 6’9 248lbs Freshman
The gem of Kentucky’s recruiting class is a bruising PF that can score from anywhere, rebound, and play above the rim.  He’s an instant NCAA POY candidate and potential superstar at the next level because of his elite skill set.

3.

Cle

Duke Jabari Parker
PF 6’8 240lbs Freshman
Coach K struck recruiting gold landing Parker, another surefire one-and-done type player that reminds many of Carmelo Anthony.  He’s only above average athletically but may have the best offensive arsenal matched with NBA size of any prospect this season.

4.

Pho

Okla St
Marcus Smart
PG 6’4 220lbs Sophomore
If he would have come out last season, he probably would have been the top PG taken because of his NBA ready size and play-making abilities.  His leadership qualities, deadly pull-up jumper, and lock down defense make him a bonafide Lottery pick.

5.

NOP

Australia
Dante Exum
PG/SG 6’6 190lbs International
Because he is already 18 years old and not a US citizen, Exum has the choice to either go to college or turn pro next season.  He excelled on the worldwide stage at the Nike Hoop Summit and the FIBA U-19 Championships, making him one of the hottest prospects next season.  What makes Exum so special, he has the skills to play either PG or SG at an elite level.

6.

Sac

 Kentucky Willie Cauley-Stein
C 7’0 240lbs Sophomore
With a year of college ball under his belt, Cauley-Stein now must capitalize on being on everyone’s radar as a premier 7 footer.  He’s still a work in progress but he’s an athletic big, with rim protecting ability, and a developing offensive game.

7.

Det

 Arizona Aaron Gordon
SF/PF 6’8 225lbs Freshman
Known as the best dunker in this year’s class, Gordon reminds many of Blake Griffin and will be an instant impact player for the Wildcats.  He’s better all around than Griffin as a freshman in that he already has above average handles and a mid-range jumper to go along with finishing with authority at the rim.

8.

Was

Kentucky
Andrew Harrison
PG 6’5 210lbs Freshman
The nation’s top HS point guard will be running the show for Coach Cal from day one.  He has above average size and scoring ability, matched with a knack for making the correct pass at the proper time.  Many compare him to Jrue Holiday.

9.

Min

Kansas
Joel Embiid
C 7’0 250lbs Freshman
Kansas’ other top freshman prospect besides Wiggins, also has elite potential to be a great pro player one day.  He’s the definition of raw but by season’s end should be one of college basketball’s best big men and shot-blockers.

10.

Por

 Michigan Glen Robinson III
SF 6’7 215lbs Sophomore
The son of former Purdue and NBA standout Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson has made a name for himself at Michigan as an athletically gifted forward that plays above the rim and excels at slashing to the basket.  He’s made strides in improving his jumper, making him a potential Lottery pick.

11.

Phi

Baylor Isaiah Austin
PF/C 7’1 225lbs Sophomore
Already blessed with an incredible 7’5 wingspan, height and length are his obvious attributes.  But he also has offensive range to beyond the 3 point line, rebounds well, and has elite shot-blocking ability.  Still only 19 years of age, no one is sure just how tall Austin will grow but he must add weight and develop a more potent offensive game to excel at the next level.

12.

Tor

Michigan St Gary Harris
SG 6’4 205lbs Sophomore
The reigning Big 10 Freshman of the Year decided to return for his sophomore season, and scaring opposing teams in the process.  When healthy, Harris causes havoc on the defensive end, as well as score from anywhere on the court.  he has the potential to be one of the premier guards in all of college basketball.

13.

Dal

Croatia Dario Saric
SF 6’195lbs International
After withdrawing late from the 2013 Draft, the sharpshooting native of Croatia has decided to return to Europe for another season in hopes of becoming an NBA Lottery pick.  If Exum goes the NCAA route, Saric may be the first International player selected.

14.

Utah

Michigan Mitch McGary
C/PF 6’10 265lbs Sophomore
After beginning his freshman season in Ann Arbor a bit slow as he adjusted to the college game, McGary was a beast during the postseason as he became the physical double-double machine that once shattered a backboard in the Elite 24 HS Game.  He has legitimate NBA size but with only average athleticism and reminds some of Kevin Love as a best case scenario.

15.

Mil

Creighton
Doug McDermott
SF/PF 6’8 230lbs Senior
I don’t think anyone would deny that McDermott has been the college ranks’ most prolific offensive player the past 3 seasons and it was a bit surprising to see him return after 2 consecutive 1st Team All American nods.  Even with another stellar season, he probably won’t become a Lottery pick because of a lack of athleticism but he reminds many of a poor man’s Larry Bird, that has legit NBA size and scoring prowess.

16.

Bos

North Carolina James Michael-McAdoo
PF 6’8 240lbs Junior
Touted as a surefire lottery pick after his freshman season, McAdoo returned to Chapel Hill and got a bit exposed despite having the tools and physique for the next level.  He’s expected to play a leadership role as a Junior and must expand his offensive game to be considered a Lottery selection.

17.

Atl

Michigan St Adrien Payne
PF/C 6’10 220lbs Senior
Payne made the right decision to return for his senior campaign, as the Spartans are loaded and should be a Top 5 team all season.  He has NBA size, athleticism, and the skill set to be a star at the next level but must be more consistent and prove he has the motor and drive to match his abilities.

18.

Hou

Xavier
Semaj Christon
PG 6’3 185lbs Sophomore
After earning Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year honors, Christon is a big, long, explosive PG with great speed and passing ability.  Outstanding ball-handler who collects a ton of steals but must cut down on turnovers and improve his jump shot to be an elite player.  Considered a potential John Wall 2.0.

19.

LAL

Kansas Wayne Selden
SG 6’5 230lbs Freshman
Likely to be paired alongside Andrew Wiggins in the Kansas backcourt, this fabulous freshman also has one-and-done potential as an elite scorer with size that was a volume scorer in HS.  He has a powerful physique and is used to overpowering opposing players but needs to prove he can be dominant at the collegiate level.  Potential Top 10 pick in 2015.

20.

Chi

Syracuse
Jerami Grant
SF 6’8 215lbs Sophomore
Syracuse lost a lot from last season but return both CJ Fair and sophomore big man Jerami Grant, who should be prominent players this season.  While Fair my score a bit more, Grant has more potential as a pro because of an impressive 7’2 wingspan, making him a match-up nightmare defensively.  Great all around athlete that has a raw, physical skill set, still only 19 years sold.

21.

GS

Louisville
Montrezl Harrell
PF/C 6’8 240lbs Sophomore
Not many players had a better Summer than Harrell, who will try to take the place of Gorgui Dieng in the Cardinals frontcourt.  He played alongside Marcus Smart on the Team USA U-19 squad and dominated the competition on the International stage.  Although a bit undersized, he makes up for it with a 7’4 wingspan and an incredible leaping ability.  Should be fun to watch on the offensive glass this season.

22.

BK

Ohio St LaQuinton Ross
SF 6’8 210lbs Sophomore
With DeShaun Thomas off to the NBA and Aaron Craft not really a big offensive weapon, odds are sophomore forward LaQuinton Ross will be the one that steps up and become OSU’s primary offensive option.  He’s a bit slender and needs to improve his consistency, but some view him as a Scottie Pippen type player when fully developed.

23.

Ind

Kentucky
Aaron Harrison
SG 6’5 215lbs Freshman
While his twin brother Andrew will get more of the attention as the maestro of the Kentucky offense next season, don’t sleep on Aaron, who was the top rated SG in HS.  He has both outstanding size and unlimited range from well behind the arc, that should keep defenses honest for potential top pick Julius Randle to star on the inside.

24.

NY

Kansas
Perry Ellis
PF 6’8 235lbs Sophomore
With another season under his belt, Ellis looks much more comfortable, as the potential starting PF for Bill Self this season.  He’s still not a finished project but came on strong late last year as a double-double type forward that could put up monster rebounding numbers with all of the talent in the Jayhawks backcourt.

25.

LAC

Tennessee Jarnell Stokes
PF 6’9 250lbs Junior
Stokes has been on the NBA’s radar since his freshman season but has been bothered by injuries and inconsistency over his first two seasons.  He’s got a massive frame and 7’1 wingspan, perfectly built for the next level.  Has the ability to be an elite rebounder as one of the hands down strongest players on the college level.

26.

Mem

Florida
Patric Young
PF/C 6’9 250lbs Senior
Young hasn’t quite lived up to the hype of being a McDonald’s All American coming out of HS, but with the Florida backcourt now full of inexperienced faces, the ball will definitely go through the chiseled big man that looks more like a Gators lineman than hoops star.

27.

Den

Indiana
Noah Vonleh
PF 6’8 220lbs Freshman
One of the nation’s potential impact freshmen, Vonleh has the potential to be Indiana’s premier player immediately this season.  He has in insane 7’4 wingspan, making him an outstanding shot-blocker for his position.  Vonleh is a do-it-all type player that will crash the boards and dive on the hardwood for every loose ball, making him an instant fan favorite in Bloomington.

28.

SA

Louisville
Russ Smith
PG/SG 6’0 180lbs Senior
A potential NCAA POY candidate, Russ may be the hardest to guard player in college basketball.  By returning for his senior season, he will be forced to take over some PG duties with Peyton Siva graduated, which is a good thing, considering that would have to be his position at the next level.  With that being said, some have compared his offensive game to a young Allen Iverson.

29.

OKC

Wichita St
Cleanthony Early
SF 6’7 215lbs Senior
Not many across the country know much about Early, but he may be the best mid-major player in the nation with legitimate NBA potential.  He’s a bit undersized for PF in the NBA but is a versatile offensive player, capable of scoring both inside and out.  Streaky but elite level 3 point ability.

30.

Mia

UCLA Kyle Anderson
SF 6’8 230lbs Sophomore
Although his nickname, “Slo-Mo” doesn’t parlay well at the next level, Anderson may have one of the most complete skill sets of any player on the collegiate player.  He struggled a bit to fit in alongside Shabazz Muhammed but he can play any position from 1-4 on the floor, even point guard at 6’9.
